Welcome to Salem Baptist Church!

Looking for a church home? Want to know what to expect when visiting Salem?

If you are considering relocating to our area or visiting the metropolitan Richmond, VA area we would love to have you be our guest for Sunday school and our worship services. If you’re new to church or just checking Salem out, we’d like you to know a few things.

First, relax, you’re among friends. If you decide to attend one of our services, you won’t be singled out or put on the spot—we promise. Our desire is to make your visit as comfortable and positive as possible. As a Salem guest you can get to know us at your own pace. There are plenty of opportunities to meet people and get involved, but we realize that everyone operates on their own timetable. We do try and make contact with everyone who shows interest in Salem Baptist Church, and we would really appreciate it if you fill out a guest card when you’re ready for that contact.

We have tried to anticipate some of the questions you may have before you visit for the first time. You will find the answers to those questions listed below. If you have additional questions, contact the church office at 804-784-4171 and we will be happy to answer them.

What will I find at Salem?

A caring congregation that will gladly welcome you Preaching/teaching that is centered on the Word of God Ministries to meet the spiritual needs of every age.

What time should I arrive?

Our worship service starts at 10:15 AM. Enjoy a time of refreshments and fellowship starting at 8:30 AM and then Sunday School begins at 9:00 AM. Feel free to take a “cup of joe” or a cup of juice to class. If you’d like information about available study groups, contact our office staff at 804-784-4171. You may on your first visit want to plan to arrive 15 minutes early or so but don’t feel guilty if you get there a little late. This will give you time to park, find the Sunday school class of your choice, or if you just want to visit worship time, find a good spot to sit in our sanctuary. Greeters are available to welcome you and help you find your way around.

What should I wear?

Be yourself! Wear what makes you feel comfortable. At a Salem worship service you will see a mix of everything within our congregation, from relaxed to conservative. We are much more interested in you connecting with God than we are in what you wear.

What about my children?

We provide a safe place for your children. Nursery is available for small children, Sunday school provides age specific classes for all ages, youth and teen and Children’s Church is available during the message for little ones ages 4-7.

Am I expected to give when the offering plate goes by?

No! The offering is a form of worship for our regular attendees. You are welcome to give, but we hope that when you visit Salem you will be receiving from us not the other way around. The only thing we encourage non-members to put in the offering plate is a guest card.

Will I have to wear a name tag or be recognized as a guest at your service?

Not at all! We want you to be relaxed and comfortable in our services and you will never be singled out. We will ask that you fill out a visitors card and we will ask if we can follow-up with you and your family but we never demand that you comply with either request. If you do hang around after the service, you can expect that someone might ask you about yourself or what brought you to Salem. We want to welcome you, not make you feel like an outsider.

Can I get some refreshments?

We have a time of fellowship with coffee, tea and lemonade at 8:30 AM and guests are encouraged to join us.

What about your Services?

Worship services are a time for us to come together, meet God and learn about him. It is a time of fellowship, celebration and learning. Throughout the service, you are welcome to join in or sit back and observe — however you feel most comfortable. We have a blend of traditional and contemporary praise time. You might sing one of the great hymns of faith or participate in a Keith Getty tune from the projected lyrics on our screen. We have piano, trumpets, flutes, violins and the guitars and the drum set don’t collect dust.

What kind of message can I expect?

Our worship time centers around a clear, practical, and relevant message from God’s Word presented by Zack Zbinden, our Pastor. Pastor Zbinden is gifted in sharing the life-changing message of the Bible in ways we can understand and apply to our daily life. Most importantly, the message is designed to share God’s gift of eternal life though a relationship with his Son, Jesus Christ.

Blessings,

Pastor R. Zack Zbinden
